Labs

You are responsible for completing ALL of these labs. You must submit a lab report about each lab you do. If you work with a partner on a lab you only need to submit a single lab report for the two of you but it must have both your names on it. Each lab is worth 20 points. This falls into the Labs/Homework category of your course grade.

Homework

Any homework assigned in the course will go here. This falls into the Labs/Homework category of your course grade.

  • Completion of the Ch 1-10 Practice Final Exam (10 points for attempting)
  • Completion of the Ch 11-16 Practice Final Exam (5 points for attempting)

Participation Activities

Any activities completed in the course will go here. This falls into the activities category of your course grade.

  • Complete the online course feedback form (5 points for completing)
  • Provide evidence of taking an A+ practice test (10 points for completing)
  • Complete the online skills review exam (10 points for attempting)
  • Complete the online digital literacy assessment (10 points for attempting)
  • Complete the MTA OS Fundamentals assessment (10 points for attempting)
  • Participate in the Student Success Day ITC Helpdesk (1-3pm or 5-7pm) on Wednesday 9/26

Skills Final Exam

The Skills Final Exam is designed to test your ability to apply the concepts learned in this class and practiced in labs to common, real-world scenarios. It is divided into two parts, hardware and software.

In the hardware portion you will be given a desktop/tower PC system and asked to:

  1. Verify the system is working before starting, this includes video output, system boot into BIOS, external USB ports, audio ports, correct amount of RAM etc.
  2. Disassemble the system into components, you may only leave the motherboard and power supply in the case but must remove all cabling/connections
  3. Reassemble the system using your knowledge as well as the motherboard manual
  4. Test the system is working, this includes video output, system boot into BIOS, external USB ports, audio ports, correct amount of RAM etc.

In the software portion you will be given some type of computer system. This could be a desktop/tower or laptop. You will be given a Windows XP installation CD and access to drivers for the system. Your task is to install Windows XP and all drivers for the hardware. You may also be asked to do software related tasks such as setting up accounts, drive partitioning/formatting, printer installation, folder manipulation, network configuration, etc.
