In this lab students, working in partners or small groups, will explore the unique hardware and software features of laptops and portable devices.
- Locate and describe to the instructor components found on the outside of a laptop computer
- Show how to remove and replace the battery on a laptop computer
- Remove and explore the RAM and hard drive access panels
- Describe in your lab notebook how the upgrade and expansion options differ on laptops and desktops
- Locate and check the power management and/or ACPI settings in the BIOS
- Explore the power options control panel in Microsoft Windows
- Describe in your lab notebook the difference between the standby and hibernate sleep states of the Windows operating system
- Test various laptop display configurations including laptop only, external monitor only, and both displays active
- Explore changes in display resolution on both the laptop LCD and external monitor
- Reset all settings to their original configuration
