2010

October 2010

October 26

Overview:

  • Installed VMWare Workstation in the CNT classrooms.
  • Installed Virtual PC in the CNT classrooms.
  • Ben picked up the Samsung printer and I verified that the problem was fixed.
  • Waiting on the quote for the eight Cisco CF cards for Mark's class.
  • Worked on getting a system in place like SyncToy to sync a folder in D: for CNT instructors to copy VMs to (synctoy settings cannot be remotely setup)

October 9

  • I have received a call back that the printer (Samsung) has been repaired. They are willing to ship it back to us if we provide them with information to invoice us for the cost.

October 8

  • Repaired B10914 which was having trouble with a trust relationship with the domain. Worked after readding it to the domain.
  • Started working on a replacement computer for B14302

October 7

  • Imaged 16 Lenovo laptops for CCDC to use with a .wim file provided by David. Two failed and will need to be imaged at a later date.

October 1

  • I tested SyncToy yesterday and only ran into a problem with installing it. As it is now, it is impossible to set up a folder sync during the installation which means I would need to go to computer to computer to connect the two folders. Dave O. has suggested using a .bat script that is run by a scheduled task (which CAN wake up the computer at task time).

September 2010

September 29

  • Finished clearing out the closet in B120 and sorting the boxes. There are a couple with CNT equipment I will talk to Bruce about. Only need to work on fixing up the machines now.

September 28

  • Continued working in B120 (Jeremy also worked on the room in the evening)

September 24

  • Found CCDC topology from 2009 and 2010 and uploaded to \\obs\Virtual Machines
  • Assisted student having trouble with CCNA1 labs
  • Adam added the four students that were not automatically added to the CNT Students group

September 23

  • Began working in B120 with Daniel's help. Moved white machines out of the closet to around the room and started sorting boxes
  • Setup videos to run on a laptop on the TV in the hall

Projects (9/22):

  • Cleaning B120, rebuilding machines into a correct, working order and checking for replacement and extra parts for all machines
  • Getting videos set up on the monitor in the Business Building hallway
  • Cleaning up B110 desk and getting rid of old hard drives
  • Purchasing RAM for HP servers in B120
  • Setting up the CCDC topology from last competition
  • Getting updated pictures and information of CNT instructors

September 21

  • Samsung Printer is currently being worked on, was called to double check the problem
  • Had a meeting with Lenovo to figure out a fix for imagining their laptops and desktops
  • Reimaged 10 silver laptops for SSD tomorrow
  • Added second stick of 2GB RAM to computers in B144 (B114 was being used). None found that required any extra RAM in other classrooms
  • Put up open lab schedules in all CNT classrooms, in the hall, and on the office door

September 15

  • Pushed out the hotfix for Windows Networking Operators group in Windows 7, so CNT Students and Instructors can edit network settings on machines (requires authentication first)
  • Installed the Administrative Tools on all the CNT Instructor stations and placed the Active Directory link on the desktop for all users (only instructors can use it)
  • Sent an email to Kelly at NowMicro asking if we can get the RAM ordered exchanged for correct RAM
  • Have slip from Samsung to get the printer shipped back and repaired (need to check if campus can ship it back)
  • Finished the VMWare XP image (need to fix that the image is not coming out of sysprep correctly)
  • Nearly finished VirtualBox XP image (machine failed to correctly sysprep before leaving)

The use of the Open Lab is split fairly evenly between CCNA students and Windows 7 students. Usually about 5+ students in the room at a given time, although there are some dead times during actual classes.
