GPT ( GUID Partition Table ) is an alternative to the more common MBR ( Master Boot Record ) partition table.

GPT disks are not limited to four primary partitions. GPT disks are NOT limited to four primary partitions Per the specifications, there is a limit of 128 partitons, each able to surpass the 2TB limitation of exended MBR disks, which is a huge step forward.
