Labs

You are responsible for completing ALL of these labs. You must submit a lab report for each chapter. If there are multiple labs for a chapter you can submit a single report covering all of them. If you work with a partner on a lab you only need to submit a single lab report for the two of you but it must have both your names on it. Each lab is worth 20 points. This falls into the Labs/Homework category of your course grade.

  • Lab 3-1 Network Connectivity
    • Note: You need to use the correct extension numbers and IP addresses for your assigned pod number, these can be found in Appendix A. You will use these IPs and extensions throughout the course.
  • Lab 3-2 Network Time Protocol
  • Lab 4-1 Exploring Command Line Interface (CLI) and Cisco Configuration Professional (CCP)
  • Lab 4-2 Integrated HTML GUI
  • Lab 5-1 Basic Manual Phone Configuration Using the CLI

  • Lab 6-1 Analog Interfaces
    • Note: At the end of this lab you have configured the FXO port on your router to accept incoming calls and pass them through to one of your VoIP phones but there is no part of the lab with instructions for testing this. In order to test this you should connect another analog phone directly into another port on the Adtran unit and dial the number associated with the port your router is plugged into. This should complete a call from this analog phone though the FXO port on the router and to the VoIP phone you have configured as the PLAR number.
  • Lab 6-2 Digital Interfaces
    • Note: In this lab you will need to connect the router in your pod to another router (you can connect to the PSTN simulator) over a T1 connection. Get information from your instructor about what type of cable to use for this connection and where to plug it (it will depend on your pod number).
  • Lab 6-5 Dial-Peers Configuration Using the CLI (this will be much easier if you have read through 6-4 and 6-5 but these are not required)
    • Note: You will be completing this lab using "Option 1" or "Option 2" depending on whether another student group in the room (with their own pod) is working on the same lab as you at the same time.
    • Note: A common mistake in this lab is to enter both the 7 and 10 digit local calling dial peer into your router. Follow the instructions carefully you are supposed to pick just one of these to include.

    • Note: You will be completing this lab using "Option 1" or "Option 2" depending on whether another student group in the room (with their own pod) is working on the same lab as you at the same time.

  • Lab 8-1 Exploring CUCM GUI
    • Note: You will also need to complete the installation of CUCM (Appendix C-1) before doing this lab. CUCM installation is a bit picky. Follow the instructions closely. In particular you need to have the correct virtual hard drive size, correct amount of RAM, number of CPUs and need bridged networking setup. In order to make sure that your bridged network adapter connects to the correct adapter on your host system you should disable all network adapters on the system other than the main physical Ethernet adapter of the system. You will also need to make sure that you are correctly connected to your network with your switch, router, and NTP server running, etc. If you do not do this the install will fail.
    • Note 2: You should continue using the extension numbers assigned in Appendix A for the labs in this class. Do not use the Appendix B extensions.

Homework

Any homework assigned in the course will go here. This falls into the Labs/Homework category of your course grade. Remember, for homework assignments turn in the actual pages from your lab book or printouts from the curriculum and not a lab report. Homework assignment are individual, you and your lab partner need to both turn them in separately even if you work on them together.

  • Participate in an online forum discussion (typically 3 quality posts or more) of each chapter on the NetSpace site. See forum posting page for details. (up to 10 points each chapter based on quality)

Participation Activities

Any activities completed in the course will go here. This falls into the activities category of your course grade.

  • Meet with the instructor once per week to discuss course progress and ask questions (up to 10 points each based on progress)

Chapter Assessments

Each chapter will have an online assessment which you must take through the ITC CLASS server system. These fall into the online assessments category of your course grade. The assessments are timed, open book, and open note but you may not ask other people for help answering the questions.
