Franske CNT-2300 Basic Security Lab

In this lab students, working in partners or small groups, will learn about and setup basic computer security.
- Download Microsoft Security Essentials as well as the latest virus definitions to your USB drive and then install them on a CNT-2300 lab computer.
- Note that virus definitions for offline installation can be found on the Microsoft Security Portal site: http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/
- Explore the settings for Microsoft Security Essentials including scheduled scans.
- Connect your CNT-2300 lab system to the Internet
- Use a web browser to visit www.eicar.org from your CNT-2300 system and attempt to download and run the eicar.com antivirus test file and see what happens
- Explore the Windows Update process including automatic and manual updating
- Download the Windows Defender Offline scanning software and install it to a USB thumb drive or burn it to a CD. Boot the USB thumb drive or CD and explore the offline scanning functions.
