Your ITC domain (campus.ihitc.net) account is used to provide authentication for virtual machine control, VPN access, and many other critical services. It is important that you set a secure password on this account. These instructions can be used to change your password.
Prerequisites
- You must have an active ITC (campus.ihitc.net) domain account for which you know the password (contact your instructor for more information)
- You must either be directly connected to campus.ihitc.net from a computer in a lab or have a working VPN connection to campus.ihitc.net
- Your new password must meet the complexity and length requirements
Web Based Password Change
This is now the preferred/suggest way of changing your ITC domain password. A video demontstation of this process is available here.
- Use a web browser to connect to http://pwdchange.campus.ihitc.net
- NOTE: This site is only accessible from the ITC network either on campus or over a VPN connection
- Fill out the form on the site with your username, current password, and desired new password.
- Submit the form, ensure the message on the top of the page indicates your password was successfully changed. If there are any errors it is most likely an incorrectly typed username or current password.
- End your VPN session. If you hesitate to close your VPN session, you will be disconnected soon because the old password is no longer valid for our VPN
- Start a new VPN session using your new password and ensure it is working
Remote Desktop Based Password Change
A video demonstration of this process is available here.
- Use a remote desktop protocol (RDP) client to connect to PasswdChange.campus.ihitc.net
- NOTE: Be sure to set the correct domain when connecting e.g. (username@campus.ihitc.net) or (campus\username)
- NOTE: If you are on a Windows system you can use the built in Microsoft Terminal Services RDP client by opening a Run dialog box and running "mstsc.exe" or finding "Remote Desktop Connection" in your programs list or start menu
- Send Ctrl+Alt+Del to the PasswdChange.campus.ihitc.net system. Pressing Ctrl+Alt+End on your keyboard is a substitute for Ctrl+Alt+Del while inside a RDP session
- Select the "Change a password..." option and follow the prompts to change your password
- You will need a fairly complex password to meet the domain requirements
- Gracefully logout of your session on PasswdChange.campus.ihitc.net
- Do not "X" the window (disconnect session) because that will leave you logged into that system and other students will not be able to log in and change their password.
- Click the Windows icon to open the start menu, click on the user account icon, click Sign Out.
- End your VPN session. If you hesitate to close your VPN session, you will be disconnected soon because the old password is no longer valid for our VPN
- Start a new VPN session using your new password
- Connect to PasswdChange.campus.ihitc.net to verify you have full connectivity to the domain
- Once you have verified full functionality of your new password in this manner, you can again gracefully log off PasswdChange.campus.ihitc.net as described above
